Any fun hip restaurants for my boyfriends birthday dinner?

my boyfriends 28th birthday is approaching and i want to plan a dinner with friends at a restaurant. my choice right now is ketchup in west hollywood but i'm open for any suggestions. since we all live in the valley (san fernando valley) i want to keep it local. i would also do hollywood area or anything near by. since everyone invited (including my boyfriend and i) work as servers at a mexican restaurant we would like something different. i wouldn't want anything to be too overpriced. advice? thanks!
